The User Choice Program is set up to contract RTO’s to deliver government subsides training to eligible students. A key feature of Australian Apprenticeships is more flexibility for the users (employers and Australian Apprentices) of the training system. User Choice is a model for achieving client responsive training which means that businesses and Australian Apprentices can select their own registered training organisation (RTO) and negotiate how, where and when the training and assessment is to occur.

The User Choice Program is an annual grant program that provides training subsides to RTO’s to help cover the cost of providing quality training and assessment for nationally recognised qualifications to Tasmania apprentices and trainees.

Eligibility will be determined prior to facilitating the signing of a training contract and will be carried out by an Australian Apprenticeship Support Network.

ABC Training and Consulting are required to charge a tuition fee except where the student is exempt for a concession. Where a student is eligible for a concession, sustainable evidence must be provided. The mandatory minimum tuition fee for an Australian Apprenticeship is $350

Smart and skilled provides eligible students with:

  • An entitlement to government-subsidised training up to and including a certificate III

Under smart and skilled, a student contributes towards the cost of training through the payment of a student fee. Student fees are:

  • Set for the whole qualification
  • Lower for students doing their first post-school qualification and;
  • Set for the student and the qualification regardless of the provider you choose.

Depending on circumstances students may be eligible for a fee concession. Students who are deemed eligible will need to supply sufficient evidence.

Rather than paying yearly or by semester, apprentices and trainees under Smart and Skilled pay a fee for the qualification. They may still pay in instalments over a number of years, but the fee is an amount for the qualification, fixed at the time the apprentice or trainee commences
